Technical data
Why is it needed?
Typical air conditioning systems normally run continually until the room thermostat is satisfied. During this time they will run the compressor and produce greater cooling capacity than the air can absorb.
The M3G controls the compressor to achieve a balance between maximum cooling efficiency and minimal energy consumption. M3G is an electronic, self learning, memory based control unit. It requires no maintenance, reducing energy and carbon emissions by up to 35%.
Oversized air conditioning units
Many air conditioning units are designed for worst case scenarios (extreme hot conditions) resulting in the units being oversized for normal conditions. The majority of the air conditioning hours is spent operating with over capacity, causing the compressor to operate excessively, Chart A illustrates this.
The green bar represents the energy consumed by the compressor. The temperature of the conditioned air has reached a point where it has decreased and cannot get any colder. However, the compressor 'over shoots' (continues to run) wasting energy, carbon and money

HOW THE M3G WORKS
The M3G intelligently calculates the over capacity of the air conditioning unit by measuring the saturated air. At the point the unit cannot transfer further cooling into the environement the M3G holds the compressor off and the latent energy will continue to cool.
The M3G will continue to monitor the temperature of air from the evaporator. Once the temperature of this air begins to rise the M3G will calculate when the compressor will start to begin cooling so the room temperature remains constant and is not compromised. Chart B illustrates this process. Compared to Chart A the energy (green bar) is reduced significantly.

A step by step guide of how the M3G works
1. M3G measures the temperature of the supply air to the space to be cooled at discharge from the evaporator, the "off coil temperature" and monitors the rate of change.
2. At first the system will run and a minimum off coil temperature will be established.
3. When the discharge temperature has been constant at or below the previous minimum for three minutes the compressor is switched off.
4. The compressor is held "off" (as above) for at least three minutes to allow any start-up heat generated in the electrical windings to dissipate (usually about 1.5 minutes).
5. At the end of the compressor "off" period this unit will restart only when the off coil temperature has risen to 20ºC (a figure chosen to maintain comfort levels in the room).
6. Depending on the system load, the compressor running hours may be reduced by between 20% and 50%, delivering significant energy savings.
